How things have changed

Today there is still a code of practice for Toastmasters. Of course each has his or her own personality and that can influence how well the function runs. Years ago it was unlikely you would find a Toastmaster at a wedding reception 'buffet'. He would only be at a 'sit-down' reception; The Wedding Breakfast. Fortunately a great deal has changed. There is still a place for protocol (that very 'British' idiom!) and also for more light-heartedness. I like to feel I bring some humour and cheerfulness to all occasions at which I officiate and am determined to take away that pompous 'only for the privileged few' tag that is still attached to the name.
May I at this point give you a friendly warning.....

A Toastmaster is NOT a waiter with a spoon and a glass!

As a modern professional I always offer......

                           friendly formality
                                     and
                           pleasant protocol.
